Basque Towns Open Beaches, Pools and Reservoirs as New Landa Parking Lot Nears Opening

The measures aim to protect water quality, ease parking pressure, preserve lifeguard coverage, maintain hospitality services.

Overview

  • Local authorities began activating summer services on Friday, June 12, with Mutriku scheduling its beach season to start Saturday, June 13 and switching on OTA regulated parking.
  • Oiartzun opened its municipal pool on June 12 with published hours and a one-day closure set for August 3, and Valladolid reopened city pools for the season through September 3.
  • Álava’s reservoir bathing areas started their season the same weekend with Blue Flag sites at Salurriaga, Moskurio and Landa and will operate through August 30.
  • The provincial dissuasory parking at Landa, a project begun in late 2024, is due to open in the last week of June and will be free this year to reduce roadside and private-land parking on busy days.
  • Officials say the combined actions — lifeguards, showers, hospitality, OTA enforcement and the Landa lot — are intended to keep water quality and safety standards while managing heavy visitor demand.
