Overview
- David Kelly, from Barrhead, became seriously unwell at a Turkish airport hours before his return flight and was rushed into intensive care in Turkey.
- He was placed in an induced coma and kept on life support while his wife Dawn stayed at his bedside for about four weeks.
- He was flown home to Scotland on 8 June aboard a specialist flying intensive care unit and admitted to the Royal Alexandra Hospital ICU in Paisley.
- Kelly died peacefully on 18 June surrounded by family, a fact confirmed by a statement on the Barrhead Joinery Facebook page and followed by the decision to close the family business.
- The family has authorised a fundraiser to help cover emergency medical and repatriation costs, funeral expenses and donations to Kidney Research UK and the Royal Alexandra ICU as local tributes continue to appear.
