Barpeta Police Arrest Five in Districtwide Drug Raids
Police say the seized heroin, large Yaba consignments and 172 bottles of banned cough syrup point to street-level distribution with suspects to be prosecuted under the NDPS Act.

- Barpeta Police carried out coordinated raids on July 8 across Barpeta town, Barpeta Road, Howly and Sarthebari and arrested five suspected drug peddlers.
- At Barpeta Road officers recovered 0.76 grams of suspected heroin in eight vials, 240 Yaba tablets weighing 23.280 grams, Rs 42,940 in cash and two mobile phones.
- The Howly operation produced 11.84 grams of heroin hidden inside a soap box, an additional 0.01 gram in a plastic vial and one mobile phone.
- Police seized 172 bottles of banned cough syrup in Sarthebari and in Barpeta town recovered 0.52 grams of suspected heroin, five Yaba tablets (0.41 g), 63 empty containers and two syringes.
- Authorities say the items are in police custody, the five suspects will face prosecution under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and further investigation is under way to trace the alleged distribution network.
