Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Mexico City Unveil Free Chinese New Year Festivals for the Year of the Fire Horse

City-backed, embassy-supported programs deliver free public celebrations blending tradition with local culture across early to mid-February.

Overview

  • Barcelona stages a citizen celebration on Feb. 7–8 with a parade from Estació del Nord to Arc de Triomf and a free fair at passeig de Lluís Companys open 11:00–21:00, organized by Casa Àsia, the Confucius Institute and Grupo Artistas Huaxing.
  • Buenos Aires holds its core festival Feb. 14–17 in the Barrio Chino with 288 participating businesses and a central dragons-and-lions show alongside music, arts, fashion and contemporary installations.
  • Buenos Aires adds a Feb. 8 preview in Plaza de los Parques Nacionales Argentinos, a Dragon Boat race in Puerto Madero on Feb. 15 and red monument illuminations on Feb. 16 at 20:00.
  • Mexico City’s Festival Cultural runs Feb. 14–Mar. 15 under INAH, the National Museum of World Cultures, the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Cultural Center, opening Feb. 14 at Cenart with performances, workshops, a bazaar and exhibitions.
  • A dragon and lion parade in Mexico City is reported for Saturday, Feb. 7 at 10:00 in the Centro Histórico with free entry, paired with a Feb. 7 evening costume contest at the National Museum of World Cultures.
