Overview
- The Barbarians announced on Tuesday, June 9 that Duhan van der Merwe, TJ Perenara and Kyle Sinckler have joined their summer tour squad.
- The touring side opens with a match against world champions South Africa at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on 20 June and continues to the UK to face Wales at Allianz Stadium.
- Van der Merwe will make his Barbarians debut against South Africa and was selected in coordination with Scotland coach Gregor Townsend to gain playing time ahead of July’s Nations Championship.
- Perenara returns to the invitational side after a long gap in Barbarians appearances while Sinckler is expected to feature in the Wales fixture, and organisers said further squad additions will follow.
- The multinational squad also includes Tomás Albornoz, Andrew Kellaway, Santiago Arata, D’Arcy Rae and Liam McConnell and is reported to have coaching leadership from Scott Robertson and Felipe Contepomi, with the tour offering players a chance to build form outside regular national selection.
