Bandra East Skywalk Opens, Restoring Safe Link From Station to WEH and BKC

The BMC-built 680-metre walkway opened on Republic Day following full structural clearance, with a railway no‑objection in place.

Overview

  • Maharashtra minister Ashish Shelar inaugurated the skywalk on January 26, confirming public access from the holiday.
  • The elevated path connects Bandra Railway Station (East) to Kalanagar on the Western Express Highway with links to BKC, Bandra Court, the MHADA office and the suburban collector’s office.
  • Key features include a 680‑metre length, roughly 5.4‑metre width, four staircases, two escalators and 14 CCTV cameras for surveillance.
  • Officials say the link will shorten walks, improve safety by separating pedestrians from traffic and ease congestion on Anant Kanekar Road.
  • Construction proceeded largely at night due to WEH traffic and required utility relocations, and the engineering team was formally felicitated for completing the project within the planned timeline.
