Banamex Will Split Annual Card Fees Into Monthly Charges

Banamex says spreading the same yearly cost into 12 monthly charges aims to make budgeting easier by eliminating the concentrated annual moment customers use to negotiate or cancel fees.

Overview

  • The bank confirmed the change will begin July 30, 2026 or on each cardholder’s anniversary and will convert the single annual “Comisión por Administración” into 12 proportional monthly charges.
  • The monthly scheme applies to 13 Banamex credit‑card products for both primary and supplementary cards while Joy, Home Depot and Beyond are excluded from the change.
  • Banamex says the total annual cost will not increase and that customers who already paid this year will not be charged again until their next anniversary under the new monthly schedule.
  • Customers lose a single visible annual charge that many used to time cancellations or negotiate fee waivers, which could reduce those negotiation opportunities and make the fee a steadier, less visible recurring outflow.
  • Separately, Banamex has addressed reports of delayed debit‑card postings by saying those were late merchant charges being processed and not arbitrary withdrawals, and media coverage suggests consumer‑service and regulatory scrutiny may follow implementation.
