- Which? published its annual seaside‑town rankings on Thursday after a January–February survey of 5,320 Connect panel members who reported 11,999 leisure visits in the previous 12 months.
- Bamburgh in Northumberland was named best for a sixth consecutive year with an 84% destination score while Tynemouth placed second on 82% and Aldeburgh made the top five with an 80% score.
- Bognor Regis finished last with a 41% score and several well‑known resorts such as Blackpool, Southend‑on‑Sea, Great Yarmouth, Margate and Newquay featured near the bottom of the list.
- Towns were rated with up to five stars across beach, scenery, food and drink, accommodation, attractions, shopping and value for money and an overall destination score was calculated from satisfaction and likelihood to recommend.
- Which? travel editor Rory Boland said the results reflect the North East’s strong beaches and value for money, a finding that could shape local tourism marketing and prompt calls for investment in lower‑rated seaside towns.
