Baltimore Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Dirt Bikes and Car Rallies

Police are prioritizing seizures, civil fines for fueling stations, targeted traffic operations, drone surveillance to curb dangerous street riding.

Overview

  • Over the weekend officers dispersed a large gathering of dirt bike riders, seized about 10 dirt bikes and ATVs, and arrested 30-year-old Mautice Greene on an attempting-to-elude charge after a brief struggle in which an officer was bitten.
  • Police said more than 200 riders showed dangerous behavior near the 3100 block of Reisterstown Road and that additional crowds gathered near Druid Hill Park before officers broke them up and no injuries were reported.
  • A separate enforcement action targeted a large unauthorized car rally in the 1000 block of Wilson Drive when officers stopped 54 vehicles, issued 36 traffic citations, arrested people for assaulting an officer and for stolen-vehicle and handgun violations, recovered a stolen car, and towed three vehicles.
  • BPD has started issuing civil citations to two gas stations accused of fueling illegal riders and warned owners of fines or jail time under the city statute while one cited owner says he will challenge the ticket in court.
  • City leaders have shifted tactics this year toward seizure-based enforcement and a Citywide Traffic Team that has taken in 27 dirt bikes and 14 ATVs so far in 2026, and police are urging residents to report illegal bikes by calling the Dirt Bike Tipline or emailing dirtbiketips@baltimorepolice.org.
