Baldur's Gate 3 Joins Xbox Play Anywhere

The change lets digital Xbox buyers use one purchase to play on Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and supported handhelds with synced cloud saves and achievements while physical-disc owners and PS5 players are not covered.

Overview

  • Baldur's Gate 3, which gained Xbox Play Anywhere support on Monday, allows digital Xbox purchasers to access the game on Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and supported handhelds without buying it again.
  • The Play Anywhere update carries over cloud saves, game progress, and Xbox achievements between supported devices so players can pick up where they left off on another Microsoft platform.
  • The feature applies only to digital ownership and does not extend to players who bought physical discs or to PlayStation 5 users because the program is limited to Microsoft's ecosystem.
  • Larian Studios has finished internal development on Baldur's Gate 3 and moved on to its next project, but the franchise continues to expand through third-party tie-ins such as a T. Kingfisher prequel novel, a Dark Horse comic, and an HBO series in development.
  • Because Baldur's Gate 3 remains a top seller and now joins a small slate of high-profile Play Anywhere titles, the update could increase demand for cross-buy support and make long, single-player campaigns easier to play across devices.
