Back-to-Back Western Disturbances Poised to Soak Pakistan and North India Through April 9

Emergency agencies warn of flash floods, landslides, hail and urban flooding nationwide.

Overview

  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department, which issued a Saturday advisory, forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms and hail from April 5 to 9 with urban flooding likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala and Sialkot on April 7 and 8.
  • The NDMA and provincial PDMAs warned of flash floods across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and listed high-risk districts such as Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan with Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence on high alert.
  • The IMD issued orange and yellow alerts across multiple Indian states for thunderstorms, hail and gusts up to 60–70 km/h, while Delhi-NCR faced a weekend storm watch and Himachal authorities curbed tourist access near the Atal Tunnel due to avalanche danger.
  • Fresh snow shut key routes in Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Himachal, Karachi braced for more rain after fatal downpours earlier in the week, and farmers in Maharashtra reported losses to ready-to-harvest crops and fruit orchards from wind and hail.
  • Meteorologists flagged a second peak on April 7–8 as another system moves in, raising the risk of hail and damaging winds that could trigger new road closures, power outages and crop losses across vulnerable mountain and plain districts.
