Overview
- B3 began trading call and put options on bitcoin, ether and solana futures on July 6, using the tickers BIT, ETR and SOL.
- The contracts settle into the underlying futures or in cash rather than into spot tokens, and the exchange does not take custody, transfer or administration of cryptoassets.
- Bitcoin options are denominated in Brazilian reais while ether and solana options are denominated in U.S. dollars, and all three reference Nasdaq crypto indexes as their price benchmark.
- The options trade from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. São Paulo time, exercise automatically at expiry if in the money unless blocked by the holder, and will be supported by designated market makers under CVM oversight.
- The launch completes a staged rollout that began with bitcoin futures in April 2024 and ether and solana futures in June 2025, and it gives retail and institutional clients a regulated onshore venue to manage crypto risk while leaving questions about market liquidity and adoption to watch next.
