Avincis Agrees to Buy 30 Helicopters From Airbus and Leonardo
Avincis says owning the new aircraft will let it control availability, configuration, long-term costs and improve readiness for emergency medical services across Europe.
Overview
- Avincis signed a contract with Airbus on Monday for up to 15 H145 light twin helicopters to strengthen HEMS and specialist missions in the Nordics, Italy and Spain.
- The company confirmed a follow-up purchase from Leonardo on Tuesday for 10 AW169s and five AW139s, bringing the total committed new aircraft to 30.
- Leonardo said its 15 helicopters will be delivered between 2028 and 2031 and that three AW169s are earmarked for a 10-year Swedish HEMS contract covering Uppsala and Västra Götaland.
- Avincis chief executive John Boag framed the buys as part of a strategy to own assets so the group can control aircraft availability, configuration and lifecycle costs for customers.
- Reporting notes slight inconsistencies in Avincis’ overall fleet totals across sources, and the orders reflect a wider EMS market shift toward larger, more capable helicopters and closer OEM partnerships.
