Avalanche Coach Jared Bednar Struck by Puck, Taken to Hospital for CT Scan

The top-seeded Avalanche now await word on their coach’s short-term status.

Overview

  • A puck reportedly deflected off Vegas player Keegan Kolesar and hit Jared Bednar in the face near the Avalanche bench early in the third period of a 2–3 loss to the Golden Knights.
  • Team staff escorted Bednar to the locker room, and the Avalanche said he was conscious as he went to a hospital for a CT scan and further tests.
  • Assistant coach Dave Hakstol handled bench duties for the remainder of the game after Bednar left.
  • Assistant Nolan Pratt called it “a little bit of a worrying moment” and said flying pucks around the bench area can be frightening.
  • It was not yet clear whether Bednar would travel to Edmonton for the Avalanche’s next game against the Oilers.
