Autopsy Rules Lil Jon’s Son Nathan Smith Died by Accidental Drowning Linked to Psilocybin

Authorities are continuing the case with no indication of foul play.

Overview

  • The Fulton County Medical Examiner determined the cause as drowning "in the setting of psilocybin use" and ruled the manner of death an accident.
  • Toxicology detected psilocybin in Smith’s blood, and the autopsy noted water-immersion changes including wrinkling of the hands.
  • Smith, 27, was reported missing on Feb. 3 after leaving his Milton, Georgia, home on foot without a phone and possibly disoriented.
  • Divers recovered a body believed to be Smith from a Mayfield Park retention pond on Feb. 6 at approximately 11:53 a.m., later confirmed by the medical examiner.
  • Milton police say the investigation remains open and ask anyone with information to contact the department, while the family held a private burial and requested privacy.
