Australia Receives First Next Generation Jammer Pods for RAAF Growlers

The upgrade strengthens Australia’s ability to jam modern air defenses in the Indo-Pacific.

Overview

  • Raytheon said it has delivered the first Next Generation Jammer pods to the Royal Australian Air Force for use on EA-18G Growler aircraft.
  • The jammer uses active electronically scanned arrays in the mid-band to disrupt enemy radars and communications, which helps crews stay undetected and complete missions more safely.
  • Initial shipsets were delivered ahead of schedule in September 2025, with additional deliveries set to continue through 2026.
  • Raytheon is standing up in-country deployment help and maintenance in Australia to speed integration and keep the system at high readiness.
  • The program is a U.S. Navy–RAAF partnership that replaces legacy ALQ-99 pods and supports Australia’s 2026 defense priorities for electronic warfare and suppression of enemy air defenses.
