Australia Delivers Speartooth Undersea Drone to U.S.

The handover signals a shift from local trials to allied use with export growth ahead.

Overview

  • C2 Robotics commissioned and christened the first Speartooth Large Uncrewed Undersea Vehicle for the United States at a ceremony in Canberra officiated by U.S. Naval Attaché Captain Josh Fagan.
  • The vessel was christened by a robotic arm under human control, reflecting the company’s “human-on-the-loop” approach to autonomous operations.
  • Speartooth is an 8‑meter autonomous submarine with modular bays for sensors or weapons, a hybrid lithium‑ion and diesel power system that drives an electric propeller, and a reported range and depth of about 2,000 kilometers and 2,000 meters.
  • The company says more overseas sales are coming soon through its European partner Eurobotics, using early deliveries for allied evaluation and mission tailoring.
  • The program matured with Australian Defence funding, Royal Australian Navy trials, and a Thales Australia plan to integrate sovereign sonar made in Sydney.
