Overview
- The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade lowered travel advice for Bahrain, Israel (excluding some high‑risk areas), Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE from Level 4 to Level 3 this week, and the UK FCDO removed its ‘all but essential’ advisory for the UAE and relaxed guidance for several Gulf states.
- Governments said the moves follow a preliminary US–Iran memorandum of understanding that paused hostilities and prompted a reassessment of risk.
- The downgrades are expected to unblock travel insurance for many passengers transiting Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha because insurers routinely avoid routes under Level 4 ‘Do Not Travel’ warnings.
- Airlines and travel bodies welcomed the change as a step toward restoring key Europe–Australia and Europe–UK air corridors, but carriers have signalled service resumption will be gradual and depend on stable airspace.
- Officials warned the situation remains fragile with parts of Israel and countries including Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen still under Level 4 advice and travel guidance liable to be reimposed if hostilities resume.
