Austin Police Probe Two Southeast Austin Homicides in 24 Hours

Investigators are seeking public tips after two separate deaths that have produced few public details.

Overview

  • A man working in a parking lot at 2237 East Riverside Drive was shot Monday night and later died at a hospital, with officers performing CPR and applying a tourniquet at the scene.
  • Austin police identified the Riverside victim as Jose Salgado-Amador and released images and a suspect description that describe a Hispanic male about 15 to 20 years old wearing a gray hoodie who fled in a light-colored sedan.
  • Police responded to a 3:11 p.m. welfare-check call at a home on the 4700 block of East Oltorf Street that was initially classified as low-priority, and officers who arrived about three hours later found a man and a woman with severe injuries who were pronounced dead at 8:10 p.m.
  • The two deaths are being investigated as Austin’s 27th and 28th homicides of 2026, officials have not released the Oltorf victims’ names or cause-of-death details, and investigators say there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
  • Authorities are asking anyone with photos, video, or information to contact APD at 512-974-TIPS or submit anonymous tips to Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477 and the cases may prompt review of how welfare checks and call prioritization are handled.
