Austin Police Charge Raymond Ware With Murder in East Austin Death

Investigators are seeking public tips in what police count as Austin’s seventh homicide of 2026.

Overview

  • Victim Robert Garcia, 66, was found bleeding and unconscious on Jan. 31 outside 1054 Springdale Road after a welfare check.
  • Garcia died on Feb. 4; APD obtained a murder warrant on Feb. 10 and charged 38-year-old Raymond Ware, upgrading an earlier aggravated-assault-with-a-deadly-weapon charge.
  • Officers located Ware in a nearby apartment; after he refused to exit, APD SWAT arrested him, and he later attempted to escape at the APD main station.
  • Police say preliminary findings indicate Ware confronted Garcia at Ware’s residence and violently assaulted him.
  • APD asks anyone with information to call 512-974-TIPS or contact Capital Area Crime Stoppers, and the case is classified as the city’s seventh homicide of 2026.
