Austin Police Arrest Two Men in Fatal AutoZone Shooting

A capital murder warrant was issued and investigators are asking the public for photos, video and tips to help advance the homicide probe.

Overview

  • A mechanic, Jose Salgado-Amador, was shot in the AutoZone parking lot at 2237 East Riverside Drive and later died after the June 15 incident, which police say began as an attempted robbery.
  • APD Homicide issued a capital murder warrant for 19-year-old Israel Medina and first-degree aggravated robbery warrants for Medina and 26-year-old David Perez Jr. on June 19.
  • Medina and Perez were arrested on June 19 at a residence in the 14000 block of FM 969 after a coordinated operation that involved APD’s Tactical Intelligence Unit, the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, and the Travis County SWAT team.
  • Police say Perez was charged with first-degree aggravated robbery in connection with the killing and that Medina had been out on bond for an automobile-theft charge at the time of his arrest.
  • APD Homicide has released suspect images, offered up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest, and asked anyone with evidence to contact the department or submit anonymous tips through Capital Area Crime Stoppers.
