Austin Airport Unveils Completed West Infill, Sets Feb. 23 Opening for New TSA Checkpoint

The 75,000-square-foot, $241 million upgrade provides near-term capacity to ease congestion from faster-than-expected passenger growth.

Overview

  • AUS held a ribbon-cutting on Feb. 6 to mark completion of the West Infill project, which airport leaders say finished ahead of schedule and within budget.
  • TSA Checkpoint 4 opens to travelers on Feb. 23 with four screening lanes that can expand to eight, replacing the two-lane Checkpoint 3.
  • The outbound baggage handling system has operated since December 2025 with a 1.5-mile conveyor capable of processing 4,000 bags per hour.
  • Funding combined airport revenues, future revenue bonds, FAA grants, and $15.99 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, with officials stating no general taxpayer dollars were used.
  • West Infill adds ticket counters, airline and operations space, independent HVAC, new elevators, modernized mechanical, electrical and IT systems, and art installations, serving as an interim step before a future centralized checkpoint.
