- Witness E, an undercover Crime Intelligence officer, presented an audio recording he says captures suspended police minister Senzo Mchunu trying to coach him to lie to the commission and to implicate Crime Intelligence head Lt-Gen Dumisani Khumalo.
- Responding in a statement, Mchunu denied coercion and said he wants to return to the commission to address the allegations.
- Witness E also testified that Crime Intelligence members were involved in the 2017 murder of Sindiso Magaqa and that prior warnings were ignored by superiors.
- Earlier, KZN acting deputy commissioner Maj-Gen Anthony Gopaul told the inquiry Mchunu improperly intervened in the 2025 murder probe of ANC councillor Phendukani Mabhida, questioning PKTT involvement and seeking updates directly.
- KZN Hawks head Maj-Gen Lesetja Senona denied aiding Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala in a R360m SAPS contract or leaking data, but faced grilling over a 2025 meeting with KZN commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, and was directed by Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga to remain available until his testimony is completed.
