Audi Recreates 1935 Auto UnionLucca’ With 6.0-Liter V16 for Goodwood Run

The project reconnects the brand to its Auto Union lineage through a faithful, archival build.

Overview

  • Audi Tradition tapped UK specialists Crossthwaite & Gardiner to rebuild the lost Lucca from photos and files over a three-year effort.
  • The car keeps its teardrop body with covered wheels and a canopy, with added vents taken from later Auto Union designs to manage heat.
  • A new 6.0-liter V16 makes about 513 hp and runs on a methanol, premium gas, and toluene mix in a car quoted at roughly 960 kg.
  • Audi plans to run the one-off at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 9–12, though it has not announced any fresh top-speed attempt.
  • The original set a 203.17 mph public-road record near Pisa in 1935 during its duel with Mercedes, then vanished around World War II.
