Overview
- Police searched Amity College Auburn about 2pm on Friday and seized a phone, a laptop and other electronic devices that they say contained child abuse material.
- Detectives arrested Year 2 teacher Matthew David Eagleton, 54, and charged him with possession of child abuse material, possession with intent under section 474.22, and possession of a prohibited drug.
- Eagleton was granted conditional bail and must report to police weekly, he is banned from entering any school or centre for children under 16 and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on August 18.
- Authorities say the seized digital material is being examined by Strike Force Trawler investigators as part of an ongoing State Crime Command probe into internet‑facilitated child exploitation.
- Police also allege they found a small amount of cannabis in Eagleton’s car and the NSW Education Standards Authority has been notified as the school manages staff absence and safety concerns.
