Attorney Arraigned in Fatal Fraser Hit-and-Run

The arraignment advances criminal accountability by moving the defendant’s seizure claim and fixed-camera evidence into the courts for further review.

Overview

  • A motorcyclist, 48-year-old Julie Fathbruckner, was struck from behind while riding on Utica Road and later died after being taken to a hospital following Sunday’s crash.
  • Fraser investigators used Flock fixed cameras to trace a Ford F-150 to a Royal Oak residence and found fresh front driver-side damage that linked the vehicle to the collision.
  • Edward Nahhat, 64, a longtime Metro Detroit attorney, initially denied involvement, later told police he had a seizure, and was charged with leaving the scene resulting in death and lying to a police officer.
  • Nahhat was arraigned on Aug. 26, entered a mute posture as charges were read, and is held on a $100,000 bond with 10% allowable for release plus court conditions that include surrendering his driver’s license, a GPS tether, and drug and alcohol testing.
  • Family, friends and the motorcycle community attended the courtroom as investigators asked for more witnesses and the case moves toward hearings on Oct. 7 and a preliminary exam on Oct. 14.
