Atlassian Cuts 1,600 Jobs in Companywide Rebuild for the AI Era

The company says the reductions will self-fund a bigger push into AI-focused products alongside enterprise sales.

Overview

  • Atlassian will eliminate about 10% of roles globally — roughly 1,600 jobs — with notifications sent by email and most cuts targeted to be completed by the end of June.
  • The largest impacts are in North America (about 40%), Australia (about 30%, roughly 480 roles) and India (about 16%, roughly 250), with smaller reductions elsewhere.
  • The company expects one‑time restructuring charges of $225 million to $236 million tied largely to severance and reductions in office space.
  • More than 900 affected positions are in software research and development, and chief technology officer Rajeev Rajan will step down effective March 31.
  • Affected employees are slated to receive a minimum 16 weeks of pay plus tenure-based top‑ups, prorated bonuses, a $1,000 technology stipend and extended healthcare coverage.
