Asylon Wins SBIR Phase III to Mature Autonomous Aircraft Inspection System at Warner Robins

The contract funds an on-site demonstration to test coordinated air-to-ground autonomous inspections as a step toward operational adoption.

Overview

  • Asylon received a Small Business Innovation Research Phase III contract Thursday to further develop, integrate and demonstrate its Multi-modal Autonomous Robotics for Inspection of Aircraft (MARIA) system at Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex.
  • The Phase III award will fund an on-site demonstration that pairs Asylon’s Guardian small unmanned aircraft and DroneDog Q-UGV ground robot with its Range autonomy software and DroneIQ command-and-control and data-visualization platform.
  • MARIA is designed to capture collated imagery, LiDAR point-clouds, telemetry and metadata and present 2D inspection workflows plus interactive 3D digital-twin views to help maintainers review findings faster and reduce risky, labor-intensive walk-around inspections.
  • The effort is currently in development, integration and demonstration stages and is not yet an operationally fielded inspection capability pending WR-ALC validation of coordinated autonomous missions.
  • The Phase III award is meant to move the system from R&D toward prototype evaluation at a major Air Force sustainment hub, and Asylon’s claims of prior deployments and more than 350,000 autonomous missions are company-reported details that the WR-ALC demonstration will help independently assess.
