Asus to Sell OLED ROG Xbox Ally X20 as Standalone Handheld

Buyers will be able to purchase the OLED Ally X20 on its own with pricing and release date still unannounced.

Overview

  • ASUS confirmed the standalone X20 after first announcing it as part of a bundle with ROG XREAL R1 AR glasses, saying it is actively discussing a release schedule for the solo unit.
  • The X20 upgrades the Ally line with a 7.4‑inch Nebula HDR OLED panel, an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 1TB of storage.
  • Hardware refinements include TMR contactless joysticks to reduce stick wear, a transforming D‑pad that switches between eight‑ and four‑way input, redesigned face buttons, and rubberized grips for improved ergonomics.
  • Early hands‑on impressions praised the OLED image quality and quieter thermals but reported lower frame rates in informal comparisons versus the MSI Claw 8 EX, with similar battery drain in those tests.
  • Outlets expect a premium price above current Ally models because of the upgraded components and market cost pressures, and ASUS has not yet given details on exact pricing or availability.
