Assam Sends First Consignment of Textbooks to Flood-Affected Students in Upper Assam

Overview

• The first consignment of 1,41,719 textbooks was loaded into seven trucks at the ASTPPC Bonda warehouse for distribution to 1,12,843 students, covering about 15% of the estimated need.
• Officials say Charaideo, Sivasagar and Jorhat together need roughly 8,98,231 textbooks for Classes I–XII after recent floods damaged or displaced students’ books.
• The Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Ltd. (ASTPPC) has accelerated printing and placed orders for remaining volumes so further consignments can be dispatched in phases.
• Education Minister Ranoj Pegu urged district administrations to receive consignments safely, store them properly and distribute them quickly to minimise disruption to learning.
• The replacement drive is part of a wider state relief effort and depends on local logistics — transport, storage and equitable handover — with further shipments expected as printing finishes.
