Assam Police Seize Rs 21.36 Crore in Heroin and Opium on Kamrup Bus, Five Arrested

The intel-led raid points to a cross-state route that relies on passenger buses with hidden compartments.

Overview

  • Acting on a specific tip, the Assam Police Special Task Force and Kamrup district police stopped a bus at Amingaon near Guwahati.
  • The team searched the vehicle bearing registration AS 06 AC 7555 and found a secret compartment built into the bus.
  • Officers recovered 197 soap boxes holding 2.561 kg of heroin and also seized 8 kg of opium from the hideaway.
  • Police arrested five suspects from the bus, identified as Abdul Latif, Md Taher Ali, Md Islamuddin, Md Latip, and Md Ajmer, all residents of Manipur.
