Assam Police Arrest Three in Fake ULFA(I) Extortion of Doctor

The case points to a larger racket that police say may have targeted multiple people across Upper Assam.

Dibrugarh Police arrested three youths on Sunday after a doctor reported extortion threats made in the name of ULFA(I).
Investigators say the trio sent SMS messages and later dropped a letter demanding Rs 60 lakh near the doctor's home.
The operation followed the complaint and was led by DSP (Headquarters) Nayan Moni Barua.
Police identified the suspects as Krishna Moni Chetia, Jintu Gogoi, and Sanjay Gogoi from the Khowang and Demow areas of Dibrugarh.
The men are in Moran Police Station custody as police test for links to similar schemes reported across Upper Assam, especially in Dibrugarh and Sivasagar.
