Assam NDA Sets March 10 Seat-Sharing Deadline as BPF Chief Rejects Leaked Numbers

The BJP is keeping the option of friendly contests open in seats where talks with AGP do not yield agreement.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the alliance pact should be wrapped up by March 10, with discussions still active with the AGP and the BPF.
  • BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary said no final seat allocation has been decided and called circulated figures inaccurate, even as leaders signalled the BPF understanding is close.
  • Sarma indicated the BJP could allow friendly contests with allies in constituencies where a single candidate cannot be agreed upon.
  • The BJP launched a Jan Ashirwad Yatra on February 28 to reach voters in roughly 40–50 constituencies ahead of an expected April poll schedule.
  • Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia said no candidates have been finalised, with selections to follow parliamentary-board procedures and lists to be announced in phases after Dol Utsav; Sarma also cited Rajya Sabha polls as a factor in the delay.
