Overview
- The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported the flood death toll at 78 and said about 3,00,031 people across seven districts remain affected with thousands displaced into relief camps.
- More than 16,500 people are sheltering in 71 relief camps and over 72,000 are receiving aid at 30 distribution centres as rescue teams from the NDRF, SDRF and Army continue operations.
- The India Meteorological Department issued orange and district-level alerts and predicted heavy to very heavy rain from July 30 to August 1, warning that runoff from Arunachal and Nagaland could trigger fresh floods and localised landslides.
- Odisha has been placed on high alert as rising inflows into the Mahanadi and a near-full Hirakud reservoir forced large evacuations of over 1.65 lakh people and raised the risk of a medium flood downstream.
- Widespread crop and livestock losses are slowing recovery and could have lasting local effects on livelihoods and supply routes because embankment breaches, damaged roads and silted homes are blocking access and repair work.
