Assam Districts Complete Second EVM–VVPAT Randomization as Kamrup Begins Home Voting

- District administrations in Kamrup, Sonitpur and Chirang finished the second, EMS 2.0–run randomization of voting machines on Monday ahead of the April 9 Assembly poll.
- General Observers Devendra Kumar Pandey and Dr S. Bharati Dasan oversaw the process with party agents in the room, and officials said they followed every Election Commission rule.
- In Sonitpur, the exercise assigned machines to 1,231 polling stations and earmarked 1,662 control units, 1,784 ballot units and 1,783 VVPATs, with handover to Returning Officers and strong-room storage next.
- Kamrup launched home voting for absentee voters, including people with disabilities and citizens aged 85 and above, scheduled from March 30 to April 1 with polling teams visiting homes.
- EVM commissioning across all 126 constituencies begins Tuesday with symbol loading on VVPATs and up to five percent of machines picked for mock polls in front of candidates.
