Overview
- Jacob Wilson was activated off the 10-day injured list on Friday and will immediately resume his role as the A’s starting shortstop.
- Wilson was originally placed on the IL on May 12 with a left-shoulder subluxation, completed a brief rehab stint with Triple-A Las Vegas and returns with strong recent offensive form and a long errorless streak.
- The A’s placed designated hitter Brent Rooker on the 10-day IL with a left-knee bone bruise after his knee failed to improve, and manager Mark Kotsay said Rooker received a cortisone shot with a chance to return in about 10 days if healed.
- Alika Williams will move back to a reserve/utility role, giving the A’s more defensive flexibility while the club plans to rotate DH options by matchup during Rooker’s absence.
- Wilson is a 2023 first-round pick and 2025 All-Star whose return restores a key defender and contact bat, while Rooker is a former All-Star who has struggled at the plate this season and whose health and form make the DH spot uncertain in the short term.
