Overview
- Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo & Cane Technology Centre at Gungu to serve as a hub for training, innovation and value addition in bamboo products.
- Khandu directed the Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resources and Development Agency (APBRDA) to prepare a long-term roadmap for cultivation, processing and industrial use while asking departments to produce DPRs for water supply and a bridge to improve centre connectivity.
- The state is pitching bamboo as an industrial raw material with uses in furniture, construction, textiles, biofuel and aviation fuel and urged adoption of bamboo-based prefabricated housing suited to earthquake-prone Himalayan terrain.
- Officials highlighted schemes and market routes for entrepreneurs and youth, including access to the Prime Minister’s UNNATI scheme, MSME programmes and e-commerce, to create local jobs and reduce dependence on outside labour.
- Arunachal holds the country’s second-largest bamboo stock with more than 60 species and long cultural ties to tribal livelihoods, a base officials say can be turned into local enterprises and regional economic demand tied to hydropower and campus growth.
