Arunachal Helicopters Airlift Food and Medicine After Monsoon Cuts Off 42 Villages

Overview

• Heavy monsoon rains produced breaches on the Nyo and Jao rivers and washed away the Jao bridge, damaging roads that link Nilling, Lingdam and Upper Giba and isolating about 42 villages.
• District Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo and MLA Taniya Soki requisitioned helicopter services and secured approval from the Directorate of Civil Aviation for sorties on July 22 and 23.
• Helicopters have been flying supplies from Daporijo to Lingdam and Nilling carrying rice, medicines and other essentials to prevent shortages in the cut-off communities.
• The district administration coordinated with the police, District Food and Civil Supplies Office and other line departments to provide DGCA-compliant ground support, helipad security and emergency services.
• Officials say restoring road connectivity and repairing washed-away bridges is the immediate priority and that the region’s hilly terrain makes helicopter relief a standard short-term response while longer-term resilient road planning proceeds.
