Overview
- Fire crews reached the Plummer Street showroom about 4:50am Wednesday, found several cars burning in heavy smoke, and about 30 firefighters with an aerial unit had it under control by 5:23am.
- Victoria Police’s arson squad declared the fire suspicious and opened an investigation, and no injuries were reported.
- The site opened only days ago under chief executive James Susler, and the manager said entry glass was smashed and fuel appeared to have been poured and lit.
- Police have not confirmed that Operation Eclipse will take the case, as the taskforce is tracking near-daily attacks that investigators say use paid teenage offenders.
- Officers closed Plummer Street during the response and asked anyone with footage or information to contact Crime Stoppers.
