Army Identifies 18-Year-Old Soldier Killed in Letterkenny Training Incident

CID is leading an active investigation into the training death.

Overview

  • Officials identified the soldier as Pfc. Krystofer Lopez, 18, and said he was posthumously promoted to specialist.
  • Lopez served as a 31B military police member with LEAD’s Emergency Services Law Enforcement Division and was a PFI appointee assigned to the 947th Quartermaster Company.
  • He was fatally injured around 9:30 a.m. on March 12 during a training event, received on-site care, and was pronounced dead at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.
  • Col. Caleb Lewis offered condolences and said support is being provided to the soldier’s family and unit.
  • Depot officials reported the installation remains secure with no threat to the surrounding community and that the cause and manner of death have not been released.
