Army Accelerates Bell MV-75 Tiltrotor to Fly by Year’s End

Army leaders cast the acceleration as a pivot to faster acquisition focused on unit-led tech adoption.

Overview

  • Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George said MV-75 aircraft will be flying by the end of 2026 after moving the timeline up from a 2031–2032 delivery window.
  • The MV-75, previously designated the Bell V-280 Valor, is described as offering greater maneuverability than traditional helicopters.
  • Combat aviation brigades are being restructured to integrate larger unmanned aircraft in Groups 3, 4 and 5, with Group 5 comparable in size to an MQ-9 Reaper.
  • Plans call for converting infantry combat brigades into mobile brigades within 12 to 18 months, equipping them with GM Defense’s Infantry Squad Vehicle and next-generation squad weapons.
  • Leadership says units such as the 10th Mountain Division will trial new systems and provide direct feedback to guide fielding decisions, including for autonomous and robotic capabilities.
