Overview
- A speeding car rammed into several vehicles on Old Bypass Road in Ongole and struck Armed Reserve Constable Surabhi Mariyadasu, who died at the scene.
- The constable was riding to the District Police Office to take part in the 'Sunday with Cycle' programme when she was hit from behind.
- The accused driver is named in reports as Megha, 25, a postgraduate student in gynaecology who was in Ongole with friends for a medical conference and is said to be in shock.
- Ongole Taluk police have registered a criminal case, visited the site and opened an investigation with questioning of the alleged driver under way.
- The victim is survived by a spouse and two young children and family members have been notified; no formal charges or forensic conclusions have been reported yet.
