Armed Crew Robs Chicago Diner, Then 7-Eleven Minutes Later

Detectives are probing a possible link based on similar clothing and a shared getaway car.

Overview

  • Chicago police say a three-person crew robbed Griddle 24 in River North early Thursday around 3:12 a.m., displaying guns and taking cash from the register and safe along with patrons’ phones and wallets.
  • A 23-year-old man was struck in the head during the diner holdup and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
  • About 15 minutes after the diner robbery, masked men hit a 7‑Eleven at 2366 North Damen Avenue, where two carried pistols and a third had a compact rifle, and they took cash and cigarettes before fleeing.
  • Offenders were described as Black men wearing gray hooded sweatshirts who left in a dark-colored sedan, possibly an Infiniti, and officers believe four or five people may have been involved including those who stayed in the car.
  • No arrests have been announced, and police say they are reviewing reports and may issue a community alert if they formally establish a pattern.
