Arlington's 19-Story Sheraton To Be Imploded for New Americana by Loews

The demolition clears space for a 507-room Americana by Loews built to add large meeting and event space to support stadiums, conventions, nearby attractions.

Overview

  • The 19-story, 311-room Sheraton Arlington is scheduled for a controlled implosion at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, with the event subject to weather-related delays and a live stream available.
  • City and contractor plans call for road closures from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on East Copeland Road, AT&T Way, and Convention Center Drive and a rolling stop along Ballpark Way from 8:20 to 8:40 a.m. to protect the public during the implosion.
  • Construction on the approved Americana by Loews project is set to begin in summer 2026, with the company targeting a late-2028 to early-2029 opening for the new hotel.
  • The replacement hotel will have 507 rooms and about 83,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space, including a 10,000-square-foot Event Barn that is intended for large gatherings and conventions.
  • Built in 1984 on the former Seven Seas Marine Park site, the Sheraton long served visitors to the Texas Rangers, the convention center and nearby theme parks and its removal signals a push to expand Arlington’s hospitality capacity in the Entertainment District.
