Arkansas Adds Driver’s Licenses to Apple Wallet

The change lets Arkansans use a phone or watch at TSA checkpoints and campus venues while full police use will wait for years of equipment purchases and training.

Overview

  • State officials announced Wednesday that Arkansas residents can add their driver’s license and state ID to Apple Wallet on iPhone and Apple Watch.
  • The state says Apple Wallet IDs are approved for use at more than 250 U.S. airports for TSA checkpoints and will be accepted at University of Arkansas arenas and stadiums starting this fall.
  • Arkansas emphasizes the digital ID is optional and does not replace the physical plastic card, so residents must still carry their paper or plastic license.
  • The feature builds on the March 2025 Arkansas mobile ID program and earlier Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet support, and the in‑app rollout may take a few hours to reach all users.
  • Officials say routine law‑enforcement processing of mobile IDs will require a multi‑year effort of capital investment and new traffic‑stop training, though the state expects growing use for travel, venue entry, and online transactions.
