Arizona Early Voting Begins as Ballots Mail Out and Drop Boxes Open

It begins the period when voters can cast ballots that will determine hotly contested Republican nominations.

Overview

  • The last day to register for the July 21 primary was Monday, June 22, and mailed registration forms dated by that day remain valid if counties receive them within five days.
  • Early voting and ballot mailings started Wednesday, June 24, with voters able to return ballots immediately to official drop boxes or vote in person at early voting sites.
  • Voters who want a mail ballot must request one by July 10 and are advised to mail returned ballots by July 14 to help ensure timely delivery; drop boxes will remain open through Election Day on July 21.
  • The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office is urging voters to sign up for BallotTrax so they can get text alerts when a ballot is mailed, received and counted, and Maricopa County will operate two 24-hour drop boxes in Phoenix and Mesa.
  • The early-voting period will shape several competitive contests, most notably the GOP governor’s primary between Reps. Andy Biggs and David Schweikert, and it unfolds against ongoing state and county election disputes that could affect administration and public trust.
