Overview
- WoRMS unveiled its annual selection on March 19, World Taxonomy Day honoring Carl Linnaeus.
- The species Acanthobotrium goleketen was described using field sampling, morphology, histology, scanning electron microscopy and genetic characterization.
- The discovery was led by teams at IIMyC (CONICET‑UNMDP) in Mar del Plata and IIBEA (CONICET‑UBA) in Buenos Aires.
- The name goleketen comes from the Tehuelche language meaning “good luck,” chosen with guidance from UBA linguist Ana Fernández Garay based on the clover-like shape of the scolex.
- Researchers say the recognition spotlights Argentine basic science during a period of constrained funding, building on a 2020 WoRMS nod for Dendrapta nasicola.
