Argentine Government Denounces 17 for Terrorism After Congress Clashes

The designation triggers federal terrorism procedures carrying harsher penalties under Law 26.734.

Overview

  • Chief of Cabinet Manuel Adorni announced the complaints as the Security Ministry released the suspects’ identities and ordered their arrest.
  • Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva said investigators used footage and biometric tools Sistema Luna and Jessie to identify suspects from Buenos Aires Province, Buenos Aires City, Tucumán and Salta.
  • Thousands rallied peacefully under the CGT near Congress before a small group threw projectiles and molotov cocktails at police behind improvised barricades.
  • Police dispersed the area using tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets; more than 20 people were initially detained and most were released the next day.
  • The Senate later approved the government’s labor reform proposal, which now moves to the Chamber of Deputies for consideration.
