Argentina Starts Early 2026 Flu Campaign as Buenos Aires Province Begins Phase 1

Officials advanced the rollout citing early transmission linked to a newly detected strain.

Overview

  • Phase 1 in Buenos Aires Province began on March 11 for health personnel and people aged 65 and older.
  • Phase 2 is scheduled for March 23, expanding to children 6–24 months, pregnant people, puerperae, those aged 2–64 with risk factors, strategic workers and people in contact with domestic poultry.
  • Shots are free at provincial vaccination centers with weekday hours from 8:00 to 12:00, no appointment or medical order required, and they can be given with routine vaccines.
  • Provincial authorities say the vaccine reduces severe outcomes and is expected to protect against serious infections associated with circulating subclade K variants observed last winter in the U.S. and Europe.
  • The nationwide campaign launched this week, and pharmacies in Mendoza are selling the 2026 flu vaccine at about ARS 65,000 for private buyers, while eligible groups receive it free at public sites.
