Argentina Sets Tierra del Fuego FAMP Contribution to 0% After Tariff Shifts

Approved FAMP projects still must be fulfilled despite the contribution being set at zero.

Overview

  • Resolution 20/2026, signed by Production Coordination Secretary Pablo Lavigne and published in the Boletín Oficial, reduces the required payment into the FAMP to 0% with immediate effect.
  • The cut is described as temporary and will remain only while the adverse economic and arancelary conditions persist, allowing the contribution to be reinstated if circumstances change.
  • Until now, companies paid an amount equal to 15% of their VAT-exemption benefit to finance the FAMP, which funds projects to diversify Tierra del Fuego’s economy.
  • Industry groups UIF and AFARTE pressed for relief after tariff reductions, including zero import duties on cellphones, eroded local competitiveness according to technical reports cited by the government.
  • Firms keep the special regime’s tax benefits and get near-term cost relief, but noncompliance on previously approved projects requires repayment to the fund with interest, reducing fresh financing for diversification.
